Medical history on the Holy Mountain

Knowledge, Miracles, Effect brings the historic pharmacy house of Andechs Monastery back to life after more than 200 years. It is located in the immediate vicinity of the pilgrimage church in the heart of the monastery complex on Bavaria's Holy Mountain. In the original rooms, TIMERIDE brings to life an authentic reconstruction of a pharmacy at the end of the 18th century with detailed decorations. Historical instruments, countless medicines, ingredients and fragrant herbs create a unique room atmosphere, which is further enhanced by the original richly decorated doors and the colorful baroque ceiling frescoes.

A tour of the pharmacy house allows visitors to immerse themselves in the history of early modern pharmacy and the history of medicine in Andechs Monastery at four experience stations using various media.

With VR and audio guide through more than 200 years of history

Upon entering the pharmacy building, guests find themselves in the first room, where both the reception and the conclusion of the tour with a VR experience take place. Here, guests are given a brief overview of the experience by the time travel guide and access to an audio guide. This runs individually on the guests' mobile devices, guides them through the stations and thus enables them to take an independent tour through the pharmacy's experience rooms. The main role on the audio guide's soundtrack is played by the narrator Heinrich Breitenacher - the last pharmacist monk on the Holy Mountain more than 200 years ago.

At the first experience station, the narrator introduces himself on the audio track, gives an overview of the upcoming tour and introduces the history of pharmacy in Andechs.

Guided by the audio guide, guests make their way to the second experience station. There, in the “laboratory”, they can expect a first in-depth look at the history of medicine and pharmacy. Equipped with new knowledge, narrator Breitenacher now leads the way to the third experience station and centerpiece of the tour - the pharmacy room or “Offizin”. The tour concludes with the fourth experience station with an approx. 15-minute VR film in autoplay.
