Welcome to Bavaria's Sonnenberg on Lake Tegernsee

"From Marienplatz to the Wallberg in an hour" - this was the slogan used by the Wallbergbahn to attract passengers in the Bavarian capital of Munich after it opened in 1951. Much has changed in the meantime. But the Wallberg still presents itself to its visitors as a superlative leisure and nature experience.

Located on the southern shore of Lake Tegernsee, the Wallberg is considered one of the most beautiful excursion mountains in Bavaria. Sunshine at any time of year and a breathtaking panorama make visitors' hearts beat faster.

Fun at every season

In winter, it is Germany's longest natural toboggan run that really gets the pulse racing. The 6.5 km run takes you down into the valley at breakneck speed. Pure tobogganing fun for young and old is guaranteed here. Experienced skiers and snowboarders will find the unprepared freeride run a real challenge. In summer, the Wallberg belongs to hikers, nature lovers and sun worshippers. With a bit of luck, the golden eagles that are still abundant here can be observed. Incidentally, paragliders and hang-gliders also appreciate the fact that the thermals on the Wallberg are usually ideal for flying. You can watch their spectacular take-off maneuvers directly below the Panorama Restaurant. There is an observation point for wild animals on the Wallberg. If you are quiet and considerate, you can - with a bit of luck - gain valuable insights into the life of chamois.

High up with a view of Lake Tegernsee

The Wallbergbahn takes you safely and comfortably to the mountain station at an altitude of 1620 m; the ideal starting point for all summer and winter activities. The panorama restaurant directly at the cable car mountain station is a special attraction at any time of year. The 260-seat circular building offers a view of the high mountains, the nearby Wallberg Chapel and Lake Tegernsee through its wide glass front. Here you can enjoy Bavarian delicacies in the beautiful dining rooms or on the large sun terrace. Alternatively, you can spend a few relaxing hours in a deckchair on the Wallberg plateau.
