  5. Beer gardens

Insider tips for beautiful walks

A small park with a romantic atmosphere, as the name suggests, is Shakespeareplatz in Bogenhausen. On the south side is a fountain with a sculpture that offers a nice break from the other bustle in the city.

Now somewhat better known, but still an "insider tip" for many visitors, is the Rose and Poison Garden near the Isar River. In June and July, over 1000 roses and other flowers bloom in the various themed gardens. A colorful spectacle and a nice place to enjoy! Nearby is also the store "Karusa" where you can buy handmade and regional gifts. So you also have an insider tip for a souvenir store, which will certainly make your loved ones a special joy!

Insider tip for city tours and guided tours

The best way to get around in a big city is by public transport. This way you can always get from A to B quickly and cheaply. Many sights in Munich are of course also accessible on foot. But if you feel like driving, we have a better tip than the sightseeing buses: The MVG offers you both bus and streetcar lines, which also serve many beautiful and famous places in Munich.

With your MVG day ticket (or even better with the CityTourCard Munich) you can take the subway, streetcar, and bus as often and crisscross as you like.

Streetcar lines 16 and 19, for example, run along the following hotspots.

Streetcar 19: Central Station, Justizplatz, Lenbachplatz, Max-Joseph-Platz (Residenz & Opera), Marienplatz, view over the Isar river

Streetcar 16: English Garden, Bavarian National Museum, the House of Art, Maxmonument, Mariannenplatz, Isartor, Sendlinger Tor, and Romanplatz (near Nymphenburg Palace).

If you're already out and about anyway and have your cell phone handy, here's another insider tip for a city tour on your own. With the Streetsafari and Questo App, you have the possibility to do a smartphone-guided scavenger hunt through the city. Fun and exciting puzzles let you learn and discover as much about the city as a guide-led tour!

Insider tip for viewpoints in Munich

In addition to the classic viewing platforms, you can also combine this view with a visit to a restaurant or bar in Munich! You can find a beautiful panoramic view on the roof of the Mandarin Oriental Hotel. The Mahjong Roof Garden is not for the faint of heart, but if you want to treat yourself while traveling, you won't be disappointed. Delicious food and drinks, a pool, a cozy ambiance, and a view over the roofs of Munich await you. Definitely an exclusive experience!

Something that many do not even know and is also suitable for the small purse, is the option to see Munich from the head of the Bavaria statue! The Bavaria Statue on the Theresienwiese is of course no secret, yet it is not necessarily the first place that comes to mind as a vantage point. So if you wanted to visit Theresienwiese anyway, the head of the lady is perfect as a vantage point 😉 A visit costs about 5€.

The insider tip among the events in Munich

Big events with thousands of people are not necessarily for everyone. As an insider tip, we have something on a smaller scale and a little cheaper.

If you want to experience Munich as authentically as possible, you should visit one of the courtyard flea markets. Here, locals put their old favorites up for sale and support the project for neighborhood, sustainability, and quarter love. The location changes weekly. For a list of all locations and dates, click here.

Is a yard sale too boring for you? Then of course there's another party insider tip!

Instead of a yard sale, just drop by the yard party. On August 29 and September 12, you can shake your leg to live DJ beats at the coolest courtyard party in Haidhausen! Admission is free, there are 4 bars and after 10 pm it continues with the after-party at Juliet Rose Bar.

The address is as follows: Hilton Munich City, Rosenheimer Str. 15, 81667 Munich

The insider tips among the beer gardens

The large and well-known beer gardens sometimes lack a bit of coziness and restful quiet. Our tips are therefore two beer gardens, which are not quite so crowded.

Smaller and cozier with 250 outdoor seats is the Kastaniengarten in Westend. The Bavarian-Croatian restaurant is at the same time the clubhouse of the Bahn-Landwirtschaft München-West. Surrounded by colorful hanging baskets, beer and Croatian/German cuisine taste just as good as in the big beer gardens!

A little further on the outskirts of Munich is the Waldwirtschaft Wawi - beer garden with proximity to the Isar. Their motto is "This is how the Bavarian imagines paradise". In addition to homemade Obazda, hot delicacies from the grill and a cool Maß, you can end the perfect Munich summer day with live jazz music in the background.
