Rosenheim

The independent city of Rosenheim has been part of the MVV - the Munich Transport Association - since 2024 and is therefore included in the CityTourCard offer for the M-12 fare zone. Rosenheim has its own TV series "Rosenheim Cops", and you won't be able to miss any references to this long-running series while strolling through the city.

Rosenheim is an ideal place for a day trip. Its Bavarian way of life invites you to store and stroll around. Of course, you can indulge in Bavarian culinary delights everywhere and the Alps are always in the background.

Kiefersfelden and the Gießenbach Gorge

Take the regional train from Rosenheim to the climatic health resort of Kiefersfelden at the foot of the Kaiser Mountains. This is why Kiefersfelden is also known as the "Gateway to the Kaiser" and the region is modestly called the "Kaiser Reich".

A wonderful hike along the Kieferbach stream takes you to the Gießenbachklamm gorge. For those who like water wheels, you will pass Bavaria's largest water wheel here.

The stop at the Schopperalm at the end of the Gießenbachklamm is just over 5 km and an easy 130 meters in altitude. In summer, Kiefersfelden also offers a bus service to the Gießenbachklamm gorge. Have fun on this beautiful day trip from Rosenheim.

Lake Chiemsee

To be honest, Lake Chiemsee is more than just a trip from Rosenheim or Munich, it is a vacation region in its own right. With the train and the CityTourCard, you can easily reach Lake Chiemsee via Prien. There is a bus to the harbor or you can walk 15 minutes.

The new Herrenchiemsee Palace and its park on the Chiemsee island of Herren is probably the most beautiful Versailles outside of Versailles. Extra tip for ambitious cyclists: you can hire bikes everywhere here on the lake and a round trip around it is about 50 km (from Prien as well as from Bernau).

Oberaudorf-Hocheck adventure mountain

Take the train to Oberaudorf and then a world of adventure awaits you, with:

Kampenwand

Aschau im Chiemgau is the name of the train station of your choice for this excursion. But beware, from Munich or Rosenheim you have to change trains once in Prien.

For those who want to avoid the arduous climb to the almost 1,700 m high summit, we recommend the cable car. There are places to stop for refreshments everywhere and the name of the restaurant at the top of the cable car says it all: Sonnenalm. In good weather, you can see Munich's TV tower from up here, as well as mountains such as the Watzmann, Großvenediger and Großglockner.

The name of the Kampenwand is derived from the jagged summit ridge, which is reminiscent of the crest of a rooster. Its summit cross is 12 m high, making it the highest in Bavaria.

Fun fact 1: A hiking boot manufacturer runs a test center on the Kampenwand.

Fun fact 2: Marmots are waiting for you here in the wild.
