Old Town Hall Tower

For families and especially for kids, the Toy Museum is a popular destination in Munich. Also, adults get to know how fast playing with toys have changed over the years. The museum is located in the tower of the old town hall on Marienplatz. With its old tower rooms, the museum reminds visitors of a dollhouse from the 19th century. In the museum, you can find dolls, plush toys, model trains and tin toys from the last 200 years.

More than a Museum

The most popular toys of the Munich Toy Museum is an exhibit by the well-known German toy manufacturer Hausser-Elastolin. Hausser-Elastolin is a pioneer of Playmobil, Lego & Co. The 60s generation may remember the little plastic tiles, doll kitchens, cowboys and Indian forts, trains or wooden sailboats. These toys you can also find in the Munich Toy Museum. In addition to nostalgic toys, the collection also relates to the modern toy world. On the third floor you can find about 100 Barbie dolls exhibited, including the first Barbie from 1959.
