Munich - a city for children

Munich is the northernmost Italian city, and dolce vita is just as much at home here as a rough beer-table culture. Does a visit with children fit in here? Of course, Munich is looking forward to all its guests and especially the youngest ones.

With the CityTourCard Munich, you can comfortably take everyone in the family with you in the group version. It is valid for up to 5 people, for children under 14 it is 2 for 1, 2 children equal one adult.

Here are 10 recommendations that have passed the family self-test "Munich with children".

  1. Oktoberfest and Auer Dult
  2. Munich beer gardens
  3. English Garden
  4. Flaucher
  5. Verkehrszentrum
  6. Allianz Arena
  7. Bavaria Film City
  8. The UMADUM Ferris Wheel
  9. The Olympic Park with SEA Life, Olympic Tower and kayak rentals
  10. The city center with "Alter Peter" and toy museum

1. Oktoberfest and Auer Dult

Bavarians know how to party. The Oktoberfest (also called Wiesn) is emblematic of this here.

Large beer tents, countless rides, and lovable entertainment venues alternate. But the best for children is "Die Oide Wiesn" - a children's paradise on the southern edge of the Wiesn.

If you don't want to wait until the end of September, you can go to the Auer Dult at Mariahilfplatz 3 times a year. Not as big, but at least as nice. The people of Munich and their children love it.

2. Munich beer gardens

When you think of Munich, you think of FC Bayern Munich, the Oktoberfest, and, of course, beer gardens.

The most beautiful in the world is at home here. You have to buy drinks, but you're allowed to bring food (you're also allowed to buy it), it's always been that way and it stays that way.

Almost all have a great playground, so of course you should go with children.

Recommendation, difficult - best all. But start here: classic, large, cozy, with a playground, the oldest in the city and very close to the main station: the beer garden of the Augustiner-Keller at the Hackerbrücke.

Insider tip: Just a few minutes walk in the direction of the station is the Children's Museum.

3. English Garden

The English Garden is probably the most beautiful thing Munich has to offer. Endless paths - allegedly 74 km long - huge meadows, a great excursion lake: the Kleinhesseloher See, a Monopteros, a Chinese tower, a Japanese teahouse, and THE EISBACHWELLE. The surfer's Eldorado in the city in the smallest space makes children's eyes pop.

4. Flaucher

The Flaucher is an extensive stretch of nature along the renaturalized Isar River in the south of the city. Here on the gravel banks your children and you can take a break from the urban jungle, beer garden and playgrounds included.

5. Verkehrszentrum

The Verkehrszentrum is part of the German Museum. Everything you can move with is on display here, from the "old bicycle" to the most modern train - a children's paradise.

6. Allianz Arena

Munich's most famous building is located on the outskirts of the city and is easily accessible by U6. The Allianz Arena is the home of the FC Bayern Munich soccer club.

The best thing is, with the CityTourCard Munich you can book a stadium tour and a visit to the FC Bayern Munich Museum at a reduced price.

7. Bavaria Filmstadt

When you visit Bavaria Filmstadt, you'll experience a mix of hands-on attractions and film sets, such as those of "Jim Knopf und Lukas der Lokomotivführer" and the "Fack Ju Göhte" trilogy. The tour guides will show you 12 studios, workshops, and the costume and furniture store and provide your children with first-hand information about filming.

Best of all, with the CityTourCard Munich you can save money on the combined ticket (guided tour and 4D cinema).

8. The Ferris Wheel UMADUM

Directly at the Ostbahnhof, you can see this new landmark of Munich. The UMADUM Ferris wheel is huge and high. It takes you up to 80m high. Whether you can see the Alps from there, you can find out above.

The best thing is, with the CityTourCard Munich you save money on a ride with the Umadum.

9. Olympic park

The Olympic Park Munich is a place for a day trip. Your kids can marvel at the Olympic Stadium, go kayaking with you (CityTourCard Munich partner), visit the Olympic Tower (CityTourCard Munich partner), and drop by SEA LIFE (CityTourCard Munich partner).

At the end you will sit on the Olympiaberg, look up to the Alps and be sure, this is the most beautiful place in the world.

10. The city center

A trip to a city like Munich is unthinkable without some shopping. Here in the city center between Isartor, Stachus, and Sendlinger Tor, you can store perfectly and still experience a lot with the kids:

- The carillon of the city hall at Marienplatz is always at 11 and 12 o'clock.
- The tower climb of the "Old Peter" for a 360-degree view over Marienplatz and Munich.
- The toy museum you will find in the tower of the Old City Hall.

Have fun in Munich and greetings to your children from the CityTourCard Munich team!
