7 questions to: Kunsthalle Munich

We are asking 5 questions and our partners are answering. Today we are talking to the Kunsthalle Munich.

Right in the heart of Munich, the Kunsthalle shows you art from the most diverse subject areas from antiquity to the present on around 1,200 m² of exhibition space. The fascinating temporary exhibitions are perfectly staged using the latest museum technology.

Describe the Kunsthalle Munich in one sentence:

The Kunsthalle Munich is THE place for exhibitions in Munich - there is art for everyone!

What highlight will there be at the Kunsthalle München in 2024?

A real surprise will be the exhibition "Jugendstil. Made in Munich" will be a real surprise. In cooperation with the Münchner Stadtmuseum, we are presenting artists who began to revolutionize art and life in Munich around 1900. Objects from painting, graphic art, sculpture, photography, design and fashion not only show that Munich was the cradle of Art Nouveau, but also how topical the issues of health, sustainability and justice that were already being discussed back then still are today.

What should visitors definitely see at the Kunsthalle Munich?

First, of course, our exhibitions. We show three large exhibitions per year with a wide variety of themes. After that, a visit to our store and Café Theatiner 8 are absolutely recommended.

Is there also a digital exhibition?

Yes, on our website you can experience some of our most spectacular exhibitions from home in digital tours. For example, you can find the fashion extravaganza "Thierry Mugler. Couturissime" or the equally profound and aesthetic works of the ingenious photographer Erwin Olaf, who sadly passed away recently, in "Unheimlich schön".

What is special about your current exhibition?

"Viktor&Rolf. Fashion Statements" turns our understanding of fashion on its head. Critically, but with a great deal of irony, the Dutch designer duo dissolves the boundary between couture and art. With the help of installations by visual effects studio RodeoFX, it's time to dive into fantastically surreal worlds - a spectacle for the whole family.

What else should you definitely see in Munich besides the Kunsthalle?

The Pinakothek museums show world-class collections, but as a lover of 19th-century art, you should also definitely take a look at the Schack Collection. It is less known, but also shows wonderful paintings.

Typically Munich is:

The top range of art and culture that really makes Munich a cosmopolitan city.
