The old Bavarian village - experience it with all your senses!

Markus Wasmeier Open-Air Museum Schliersee - The old Bavarian village

At the Markus Wasmeier Open-Air Museum Schliersee, visitors experience an unforgettable journey into an authentic past. Numerous historic buildings from the Oberland region have been restored in great detail and rebuilt on the 60,000 square meter museum grounds. Some of the farms have been reconstructed with their original furnishings and show everyday farm life from the 18th century. The initiator of the farm village is none other than skiing legend Markus Wasmeier. He is not only a successful skier, but also a true lover of his homeland. "With our museum, I want to preserve our cultural heritage for future generations - so that children know that cows are not purple" - this is the idea of the two-time Olympic champion.

Experience country life and craftsmanship

The old Bavarian village is both a popular excursion destination and a meeting place for culture, tradition and crafts. Every year, a large number of festivals, celebrations and markets are held to mark a wide variety of occasions. Whether folk dance, farmer's garden days, traditional costume and crafts market or maypole festival - customs and traditions are lived in the old Bavarian village.

The museum village has also set itself the special task of breathing new life into traditional crafts. Visitors cannot expect a brittle rehash of history, but a tangible and living history. Every day, depending on the weather, you can get a vivid impression of the various domestic tasks of days gone by in the courtyards - from felting, spinning and dyeing wool to washing clothes, cooking over an open fire, tilling the farm gardens, forging, distilling schnapps and baking bread. The museum tour "Country life as it once was" provides particularly fascinating insights into the everyday life of farmers in the 18th and 19th centuries. Visitors experience the "good old days" and time-honored traditions in all their facets at first hand.

Enjoy tradition

Guests can experience the unique taste of the museum's home-brewed beer for themselves in the museum's own pub "Zum Wofen". When the weather is fine, you can enjoy the breathtaking mountain panorama in the beer garden with Bavarian delicacies, cakes from the in-house patisserie and other delicacies. And even on less sunny days, the guest rooms in the old Bavarian inn offer a special ambience in which to linger.

How to get there: With the Bavarian regional train every hour from Munich main station via Holzkirchen in the direction of Bayrischzell to the Fischhausen-Neuhaus stopThe station is directly opposite the museum.
