6 reasons for a day visit to Lake Tegernsee

Munich is worth a visit at any time of year. If it is colder in the city, you will find a rich Bavarian cultural offering here and if the sun is shining, you will enjoy the Bavarian way of life in the parks and beer gardens.

But if you want to know what Bavarian happiness really means, you have to head out into the mountains and to the lakes.

Start with the best and come to Lake Tegernsee.

  1. Train connection
  2. Boating with a romantic backdrop
  3. Enjoy life with the best beer at the Tegernsee brewery
  4. Be active on the trail and always find a good place to stop for refreshments
  5. Run around the lake in record time - take part in the half marathon
  6. Marvel at world-famous art - visit the Olaf Gulbransson Museum

Train connection

Is there a more relaxed way to travel than by train? We think not. You can travel comfortably from Munich to Tegernsee in about 1 hour with the BRB. Shortly after Munich, you'll get that vacation feeling as you enjoy the Alpine panorama on your journey.

The train stops twice at Lake Tegernsee, firstly in the tranquil town of Gmund and secondly in the lively town of Tegernsee. Between 9 am and 8 pm, the trains even run every ½ hour. Choose the CityTourCard Munich with fare zone M-12.

Boating with a romantic backdrop

Whether in Rottach-Egern, Gmund or directly in the village of Tegernsee - you can hire a boat anywhere. The lesien electric boats fit perfectly into this idyllic and romantic mountain lake world.

More information can be found on the Tegernsee Valley Tourism website.

Enjoy life with the best beer at the Herzoglich Bayerisches Brauhaus Tegernsee

We may not be completely objective here, but with the view of the lake and the mountains, you too will have the feeling that the beer here tastes special and best (and of course all other drinks from lemonade to tea).

According to the Bräustübl, the famous "Liberalitas Bavariae", the Bavarian "live and let live", is at home here. Locals and holidaymakers, old and young, happy and thoughtful - and of course hungry and thirsty: the Bräustübl welcomes them all."

We believe they are right.

Be active on the road and always find a good place to stop for refreshments

There are over 300 km of marked hiking trails around Lake Tegernsee. It's always challenging, but we recommend simply taking a break from everyday life and focusing on a leisurely stop-off point. It's fun for a day trip.

Take a look at the Tegernseer Tal Tourism, they know their way around best.

Extra tip: You can find more information about Tegernsee's local mountain, the Wallberg, in our blog posts.

Run around the lake in record time - take part in the half marathon in September

It is considered one of the most beautiful half marathons. Every September, you can compete with other athletes and run around the lake, whose lakeside paths almost perfectly replicate the route of a half marathon. We think you can try it all year round, but there's no medal. It doesn't matter😉

Marvel at world-famous art - a visit to the Olaf Gulbransson Museum

The Norwegian artist Olaf Gulbransson lived in Munich for many years and spent the years after the Second World War at Lake Tegernsee until his death in 1958. He is also buried here in Rottach-Egern. He achieved world fame as a political cartoonist.

Visit him in his museum in the village of Tegernsee.

Come and visit the little paradise just behind Munich. Lake Tegernsee is waiting for you, your friends and your family. You can find more articles about the Bavarian Oberland and Munich here.
