Silent Rebels. Polish Symbolism around 1900
25. March – 7. August 2022
Polish painting around 1900 takes you into a world of myths and legends, into dreamy landscapes, into old traditions and customs, into the depths of the human soul. In a nation without its own state – Poland was divided between Russia, Prussia, and Austria-Hungary until its independence in 1918 – a young generation of artists set out to renew painting. With their paintings, they provided what was lacking on the political level: a common identity. They found inspiration in their own Polish history, culture, and nature as well as in the exchange with artistic circles in Berlin, Munich, Paris, St. Petersburg, or Vienna. On the basis of around 140 important works from public and private collections, Kunsthalle München is presenting for the first time in Germany such a comprehensive show on the heyday of Polish art between 1890 and 1918.
The exhibition was initiated by the Kunsthalle München and co-organized by the Adam Mickiewicz Institute and the National Museums in Warsaw, Cracow, and Poznan.
Munich Flower Extravaganza
03. February – 09. July 2023
Gasteig, Kunsthalle München, Botanical Garden, and BIOTOPIA are joining forces to launch a citywide festival centered around the flower in 2023.
Celebrating nature in the city. This is the motto of next year’s Flower Power Festival Munich 2023, which will take place from February 3 to October 7. After the nationally sensational Faust Festival 2018, it is to be the second major event in the Bavarian capital, in which everyone can participate, whether large institutions, small associations, renowned cultural institutions, well-known parks, or private initiatives. The starting point is the exhibition “Flowers Forever. Flowers in Art and Culture,” which will be on display at the Kunsthalle München from February 3 to July 9, 2023.
